[ Update 2: Greg Schlueter | P4C Director ]

One person has real need. Another, capacity to give. There's a paradox here. The person of need offers the person of capacity the greatest measure of wealth, a capacity to live for other. An opportunity to love.

Those in real need awaken us to awareness that the greatest value of a gift is the capacity to turn the given into the next giver. Until we become givers, we remain truly poor.

The James Family are a tremendous gift to us. An opportunity to love. And the response at our Presence for Christmas events and beyond has been overwhelming. So many have have discovered their wealth. They have committed to praying, fasting and giving financially.

This past Wednesday, after our Presence for Christmas event, amidst the cash and checks for the James Family was a solitary piece of paper of immeasurable value. With frayed edges, torn from a notebook, the unsigned note simply said:

"After last week our family decided to eat the food we had in our cupboards and refrigerator and donate our grocery money for the week to the James family."

What great wealth. to What the love of God can do.

This year receive the real gift. Discover the gift He is. Become the gift you are. Presence for Christmas continues next Wednesday! [If you missed it, please check out Bishop Trautman's robust reflection - Prepare the Way! ]

Along with our commitment to pray, would you please help us help them? Truly- no amount is too small or too great. All donations are tax-deductible.

[ Update 1: from Charles Kinnane | P4C Friend ]

Thank you so much for everything you are all doing to help Rick and his wife and their 2 year old. I saw him last night and he was visibly moved and humbled to learn more about the Presence for Christmas mission.
Rick has been working desperately to save his house from being condemned, but saltwater from the flooding has already started corroding electrical wires. His entire house has now become a serious fire hazard.
The news hype surrounding Hurricane Sandy is dying down now, but the people of the NY/NJ coast need your help more then ever.
Thank you so much for your generous support of Rick and his family. Words cannot express how uplifting your kind gestures mean to their spirits this Christmas season. Your Generosity is a reflection of the true meaning of Christmas.

Sincerely - Charles Kinnane

“I never look at the masses as my responsibility; I look at the individual. I can only love one person at a time - just one, one, one. So you begin. I began - I picked up one person. Maybe if I didn't pick up that one person, I wouldn't have picked up forty-two thousand....The same thing goes for you, the same thing in your family, the same thing in your church, your community. Just begin - one, one, one.” Mother Theresa
